Thought of getting back in touch with some sites and individuals who have been interacting on the blog.
We’re leaving Siaha (a.k.a Saiha) this week, looking forward to be based out of some place more accessible to our homes….
We will always miss this place and its people.
Added a page to my blog…on Mizoram…do stay in touch Roshni http://ayeartomyself.blogspot.com
A Mara Chief’s legacy
A friend took us to her home last month. Her Grandfather and his brother were chiefs of some villages in Saiha. Their home to me was like a mini museum full of musical instruments, baskets , and urns and jars passed through generations. Just putting up some images from there. Thanks to Jeniffer and her family for having us over. For more information on the significance of these pieces read The Lakher’s N.E Perry , thats what uncle (Jeniffer’s father) recommends too!

About the blog – Cutting a long story short
This started of largely as a blog on our lives and travel around Saiha, Mizoram and now is growing on to include other events and experiences especially those where I manage to get a decent image! . I’d be glad to hear any feedback or reactions.

Roshni, it was nice reading your comments about Saiha- HQ of Chhimpuitui distict. I’ve been in those areas in 1970s while travelling to tri-junc of India-BD-Burma borders. I had an opportunity to visit Lawngtlai & Saiha in 2004 (our son was stationed in Aizawl then) & now in 2010 summers. People are still simple & loveable. Itinerary to North East unfortunately still consists of Gangtok/ Darjeeling/ Shillong/ Kaziranga and vast areas of Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh & Mizoram are not known. Apart from Govt’s efforts, I suppose its people like you and such groups who must help in promoting these destinations too.
I have plans to visit South Mizoram in 2011 and you may give me some references of Lunglei/ Lawngtlai/ Saiha, if possible and convenient.

Baljit Gill
