Guns N’ Roses’ new album leaked online
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 23:1 PM. Posted by Marasaw.com (193 views)London (ANI): Nine tracks from Guns N’ Roses’ 14-years-in-the-making album Chinese Democracy have been leaked on the Internet. The nine tracks were posted on a little-known rock website, www.antiquiet.com. A poster named Skwerl made the songs available on June 18, without explaining their source, reports the Telegraph.
The long-awaited sixth studio album from Axl Rose’ band, which is reported to have cost in excess of 13 million dollars, is rumoured to be finished, with the group currently in negotiations about a release.
The poster read: “I always said that the more that Axl and Geffen jerked around trying to figure out how to release this finally finished album that we’ve all been waiting over 13 years for, the greater the chances would be that it would slip out of a pressing plant or office somewhere and wind up in the hands of some ******* with a blog. So…”
Though the songs have been removed from the website, they have spread throughout the Internet, appearing on filesharing sites as well as YouTube. Once released, the album will be the first original recording from Guns N’ Roses since the 1991 releases of Use Your Illusion.

Guns N’ Roses
Guns N’ Roses is an American hard rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. The band, led by frontman and co-founder Axl Rose, has gone through numerous line-up changes and controversy since its formation. Guns N’ Roses have released five studio albums, two EPs, one live album, and three music video DVDs during its career. The band is currently working on the infamous album Chinese Democracy, which has been in production for over a decade. Once released, the album will be the first original recording from Guns N’ Roses since the 1991 releases of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.
Guns N’ Roses have sold an estimated 90 million albums worldwide, including 39 million in the United States. The band’s 1987 major label debut album, entitled Appetite for Destruction, has sold 27 million copies worldwide and reached number one on the United States Billboard 200. In addition, the album charted three Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Sweet Child O’ Mine” which reached number one. 1991’s Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II debuted on the two highest spots on the Billboard 200 and have sold a combined 14 million copies in the United States alone.
While glam metal was the leading genre in record sales, video charts and radio airplay, Guns N’ Roses offered a grittier, more traditional take on rock music, and they are known for their authenticity.

Guns N’ Roses Call in FBI
The blogger who leaked new tracks by the rockers is questioned…
Kevin Skwerl- the former record company employee who leaked new Guns N Roses tracks- has been questioned by the FBI.
Songs from the rock group’s much delayed Chinese Democracy album appeared on the internet last week.
Skwerl was immediately issued with a cease and desist legal notice by Axl Rose telling him to take the songs down.
However after taking them down the blogger was reportedly questioned by the FBI agents about the source of the files.
Chinese Democracy has entered rock folklore after being repeatedly scheduled for release and then cancelled.

FBI Investigating Guns N’ Roses Leak
In the leak of all leaks, Guns N’ Roses’ long awaited and much joked about Chinese Democracy hit the internet late last week — a move that this week has attracted the attention of FBI. According to Rolling Stone, on Monday some “Mulder and Scully types” paid a visit to the blogger responsible for the leak, Kevin Skwerl, after reportedly receiving a complaint from GN’R’s main man himself, Axl Rose.
“It was kind of an ambush,” Skwerl – a former Universal Music employee turned web designer – told the magazine. “When I came back from lunch they were waiting in the lobby for me. It’s a little creepy they know where I work.”
The two FBI officers reportedly questioned Skwerl for approximately 15 minutes about where he got the nine Chinese Democracy tracks, which he posted on and now removed from the blog Antiquiet, telling him they would be back for more questioning.
“I wasn’t sure if they were going to come by with a warrant and trash the place, like in the movies,” he said. “It was nothing like that.”
Skwerl also told Rolling Stone he got the GN’R tracks from an “anonymous online source” and explained that he took down and deleted the songs after being contacted by “a really cool guy from the GN’R camp.” However, despite promptly removing the tracks, Skwerl was met with a cease-and-desist letter threatening possible legal action.
“I’m not so worried about that,” Skwerl said. “It’s a legal grey area since it wasn’t for download, it wasn’t a finished product. We aren’t sure who owns the recordings. I feel like I might survive this.
“If legal proceedings come my way, I’ll face them 100 percent. I’m not afraid of that. I did what I did, and I’ll face the music if I have to.”
